This is by no means the definitive guide on saving your battery, but it is a good start and should be quite [...]

This is by no means the definitive guide on saving your battery, but it is a good start and should be quite helpful for those that are not as familiar with Android devices. It can really save you some battery life on your new Verizon Wireless HTC Thunderbolt.

Here are the steps:

Applications:
By default, many applications on your phone are running in the background, regardless if you know it or not. If you new to Android devices, it is totally understandable that it will take you some time to find your way around. Don’t sweat it.

What you can do is install an app that you can get in the Android marketplace called “Process Manager”. The icon is a little green robot. It is free. There are several others but this one works pretty well.

Once installed, you want to conveniently put the icon on your home page of your device. This program will give you an option to press 1 button to kill everything running in the background. It works great and will save you plenty of battery life.

WIFI, GPS & Bluetooth:
It is very simple; turn these 3 things off when you are not using them. Just because you are not using Bluetooth, GPS or WIFI doesn’t mean that they are not running in the background constantly looking for a signal/connection.  Shut them off!

Screen Brightness:
Unless you are going blind or, you are in a very bright environment, set your screen brightness to the minimum. You should still be able to see the screen fine.

Haptic Feedback:
This is that little vibration hat you feel when typing. Turn it off! You don’t need it and if you are typing a lot, it will impact the battery eventually.

4G Service: (there is a way to switch it on an off )
We have all been waiting for 4G and the HTC Thunderbolt. It is a very fast network however; it uses a lot of power to run. When you do not really need to download or surf the web at super speed, there is in fact a way to turn off 4g and switch to 3g on your HTC Thunderbolt. This will definitely, 100% save you some battery life. It is a totally reversible process.

*Here is how you do it on your thunderbolt:
Make like you are going to dial a phone number and type this in exactly:Â *#*#4636#*#*
Press call. Once in there, you should see that you phone has it selected something like 3G + 4G LTE
What you want to do is change the selection to the one at the top that says 3G Auto.  That is it. Now your phone will only use 3G (until you decide to change it back)
When you want to turn your 4g radio back on, just follow the same step and change it back.

While many Android experts out there know all of this, sometimes the newbie’s need a little help so that is why I wrote this guide. These steps should help you to save some battery life on your new HTC thunderbolt.

Enjoy It!

On Saturday, March 20th 2010, The NJRMG was granted VIP stage access at Rise in Lodi NJ to perform an exclusive High Definition video shoot of the very popular NY recording artist, Kim Sozzi, as she performed several of her top radio hits.

Early in the night:

We arrived at Rise early in the night and were led inside by our very good friend “Fun Anthony” (who is the one responsible for arranging this shoot for us). Anthony put us in the VIP area while we had some drinks before Kim Sozzi arrived. Actually, it turned out to be a lot of drinks!

By around 11:30, Rise really started to fill up and we must say that the crowd consisted of some really HOT people! We hadn’t been up there in a while and I recall commenting several times on that topic. We continued to enjoy our drinks and just hang and catch up with some friends while we waited for Kim to enter the building.

The main event:

Kim arrived and took the stage a few moments shy of 12:30 am and by then, crowd was pumped up. Everybody crammed around the stage area and welcomed Kim very warmly. She got right down to business and started performing her 1st song. We got into our shooting position on stage and began to film. Since Kim had already started performing, we were limited to moving around so, we had to stand directly in front of a main speaker. That, of course caused audio problems in our recording but nevertheless, we captured incredible HD video and her excellent singing voice could still be heard quite well. Let us assure you that her voice was right on the money. It is really commendable when an artist can perform live and sound just as good as a studio recording. This was certainly the case with Kim Sozzi. She continued to perform many of her big hits such as ‘ Alone”, ” How Did You Know”,” Feel Your Love” and “Secret Love”. She connected very well with the energetic crowd and everybody sang along and knew all of the words.

Seen below is a video clip from Kim’s live performance. If your computer can handle it, we suggest opting for the HD version.

Recap:
From our eyes, the night went extremely well for Rise. There was a great vibe in the air and we had a great time. You had a very hot crowd, a ton of girls, an outstanding performance from Kim Sozzi. Not an easy package to put together. With that said, special recognition needs to go to the following people: Fun Anthony, Bon Solid Productions, Billy Badass, Eugene and the entire staff and security team at Rise. These are the people who make it all happen! We have to add a special shout again to Fun Anthony who always makes things happen for The NJRMG. He is both a part of our team as well as, a good friend!

Be sure to look out for our photo set from this event which will be posted shortly, as long as the HD videos on our Facebook Fan Page and YouTube channel.

If you haven’t done so, you can become a fan of the following 2 Facebook pages:

The very talented, New York native singer & songwriter Kim Sozzi, tops herself yet again, with another hit! This time we are referring to the release of remixes to her recently released song called “Secret Love”, which was initially included on Kim’s debut album. The remixes are sure to be a big favorite with radio stations and DJ’s nationwide.

Kim has been a favorite artist of The NJRMG (The New Jersey Rockstar Media Group) since our network was in its infancy (going back to 2006).

We were fortunate enough to shoot some exclusive raw video footage (shot from the stage) from an earlier live performance of Kim singing this particular track. It was over at Club Rise in Lodi, NJ. (Big shout out to Antwan for shooting the footage). You can see the live performance on YouTube (Link). We feel that Kim really nailed it that night. Although our clip was short, if you listen to it, you will agree that her voice couldn’t be more on the money. Especially when compared to the newly released remixes. This is a perfect example of how one identifies real talent. During that past performance, we knew it was a matter of time before this track took off. Looks like we were right!

Several remixes of the song have been released by Kim’s label and are available for purchase  thru ITunes (Link). Our favorite, of the remixes, was also put up on YouTube (Link).

For our readers who are not familiar with the music of Kim Sozzi, we suggest checking out her website (Link) for all of her general info/news. Also, be sure to purchase these remixes from ITunes”.

We applaud Kim Sozzi for her much deserved success. As she releases more material, The NJRMG will be sure to bring all of our readers the highlights.
It was the night that Blackthorn (Kenilworth, NJ) would officially open their huge outdoor deck for the season. Each year, opening night sets the vibe for the summer and this party set it off!! (Be sure to check out the full photo gallery of this event)

Weather was supposed to be a VERY big concern. Almost every weather station predicted an 80-90% chance of rain. They don’t know shit!! Other than a few drops, the weather was perfect!

As an added twist, Blackthorn’s owners Gene and Eugene Gillespie made awesome business moves. They had a guest appearance from Playboy Model Victoria Stevens, they had Bongo Jack playing live drums, they brought in Steppin’ Out magazine to shoot a spread and then of course they had NJROCKSTAR.COM (us), who has been working with blackthorn consistently since 2006.

 The Night Begins:

The crowd started to fill in just after 10:30PM as usual.  At that point, there was still a big scare of rain but as people got their “drink on”, that was forgotten.  After 11PM, as people at home were realizing that the weather held up, it is obvious that they made their way to “The Thorn” because the place was packed!! It looks like all of the promotion paid off.

Playboy Model Victoria Stevens showed up around 11 and was really a big hit. She mingled with the crowd, got to know the staff, the regulars as well as other guests. Â She posed for pictures and partied the night away with her entourage. She had a really great time and really connected with the crowd. That was a very smart move on Blackthorn’s part for inviting her out.

 The Music:

DJ Danny T and DJ Johnny FX really outdid themselves. DJ Johnny FX worked the mix for the crowd inside and totally had a great vibe going. DJ Johnny FX is the resident DJ indoors at Blackthorn and has really built a good base crowd. Then you have DJ Danny T, who is the summer season resident DJ on the deck. This guy dropped the BOMBS for this party. Awesome house beats all night long!Â

We actually spoke with DJ Danny T prior to the event and he had explained how much planning he put into his music set for this night. The guy didn’t lie, the music was off the hook and his hard work really shined thru. We really recognize how much work these guys put into their music. We think it is sometimes taken for granted by people. It is not just about setting up and playing music. These guys put in hours an hours of their personal time at home, planning their set list and mixes not to mention keeping up with the latest music.

 The crowd:

Opening night is generally always a busy night. This party certainly exceeded that! Of course you had the Blackthorn regulars but this year, there were also many new faces as well. We strongly feel that this had to do with the heavy promotion that njrockstar.com did for this event. I mean, we advertised everywhere online and offline and we did it hard! It definitely paid off and we are sure the Blackthorn staff noticed. Blackthorn management and even some of the regulars (Kevin, Cowboy, etc) also did their share of promoting this event.

What we love about Blackthorn is that they do something that they may not get enough credit for; they bring a very diverse crowd that actually gets along meanwhile keeping the party trendy. That is a very difficult task but always seems to work at Blackthorn. We feel that this is what keeps the place a popular choice for a night out. For this event, the crowd was a perfect balance.

 Conclusion:

Overall, we feel that this party was a total success. Everything went smooth and everybody in attendance had nothing short of an awesome time. In all honesty, we can’t say that we saw anybody who didn’t have a smile on their face. The crowd, music and staff were all great.

The bottom line is that Blackthorn consistently has a full house each and every week during their very popular Thursday night dance party, the owners obviously make smart business moves because this has been the case as far back as we can remember.

We really need to mention how great the staff is at Blackthorn. These guys (and girls) are real professionals at what they do. The bartenders are the best we’ve seen and are cool as hell. You wont find more sincere Bartenders anywhere in NJ and we mean that. The security staff always makes everybody feel safe and secure and the owners are nothing short of great, down to earth people.

It seems that every day, we go on Myspace or Facebook or whatever and see yet another group of News Jersey’s finest (kid’s) coming up with a new “nightlife” website or, “&@!.*% promotions Inc”. It is starting to become a bit of a joke to us. Enough is enough already!

Anybody with half of a brain can purchase a domain name for 9 bucks and use the little tool Godaddy provided to make their “website” if you will. Now, we know these kids are young and that they think they are cool but they are just flooding the market with senseless bullshit. (Like NJ really needs yet another promoter or picture website right?).

As far as we are concerned, this is how it is folks:Â

1: There are about 5 “NJ” nightlife websites out there that actually matter and yes we are one of them! Two of them are the best at getting the picture coverage and that is what they are about. Then there are 2 of them try and hold their own and try to mix things up, and yes, they are doing fine as well. Then, there is US (more below on that).

2: There are about a dozen (maybe a few more) REAL promoters in this state that actually make a difference. Many of them have been doing it for years. The rest are a bunch of 21-25 year old kids who start their own little promo company but are not even a fly speck on the map (sorry kids).

This article was written to simply address something that had to be addressed. If we don’t speak up, perhaps nobody will. If you plan on being a “fly by night” promo company, why even bother? There is too much competition and you are just making fools of yourselves with your homemade $50 websites. (lol)

While we are discussing these topics, we feel that this is a great opportunity to address what WE are all about.

NJROCKSTAR.COM is totally different than the other New Jersey websites online today. We are neither promoters nor just a “picture site”. We are not solely about the “nightclub” life (we will be covering every entertainment related industry in New Jersey).

What we are, put simply, is premium entertainment company who reports news about what is happening out there regarding New Jersey entertainment (what spots are hot, what events are going on, our opinions, our reviews, upcoming concerts, who is promoting what, etc) so, actually, we are willing to work with the other top sites and advertise what they are promoting/displaying (when one of them is ready to do so). We are actually like an online newspaper.

The bottom line is that too many kids out there in our state are setting up these half ass promo companies or coverage websites and are making complete fools out of themselves. They should develop some real skills thru years of hard work (like we did). We built a technologically advanced, premium quality, Entertainment Company with a real business model but…it took us 3 years to develop.  Kids: rushing to become a “big” player is not possible but If you can last more than a year, you “might” have a chance in making a name for yourself.

If you are one of the “top” promoters in NJ and are reading this article, shoot us an email. We are going to start to work with you guys by reporting the upcoming events you are promoting and the highlights of the events as soon as they happen. It is a “win win” situation for everybody involved. What we post gets seen!

update 5.16.2009:  This article should not be offending anybody in specific since no specific “businesses” or “names” were mentioned. To be honest, we have no time to be looking for, and targeting any specific business. This was written to address a general concern. Our fuel for this article came directly from hearing some of the big veteran club promoters recently venting about the topic and it started to make real sense. After hearing about it 10 times, of course our editor decided to write a post. That is what we do, report news in the industry. In this instance, we are not writing our sole opinion but posting a combination of what we have been told and how we feel about hearing it. This is actually a true topic. These “companies” seem to be popping up by the hour. Word are words, if you are not a fly-by-night biz, this article should be of no concern to you. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will succeed in the industry. Best wishes to everybody.

On Wednesday, April 15th, 2009, we had the pleasure of dining at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant inside Borgata Casino & Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ.

This was a first time they we had actually dined at Wolfgang Puck and we had only heard good things about this restaurant up until that point. Did the experience live up to the reputation?

First, let us say that this was an outstanding experience. Both the president of NJROCKSTAR, LLC and, his girlfriend agreed that it was a very memorable dining experience. To start, we called for reservations at the last minute and we were shocked with how nice we were treated on the phone. The person that answered the phone made sure that we were accommodated.

When we arrived, we opted to dine in the actual restaurant room in the back rather than the lounge area up front that is exposed to the passing public on the gambling floor. This would give us the opportunity to absorb the full atmosphere and provide us with a more intimate vibe. The decor was very modern and seating was comfortable. We do have to note that the tables were very slightly too close together but, privacy was not an issue at all. We would have preferred being spread out a bit more from the people next to us on either side.A waiter greeted us the minute we were seated.

After ordering, it seemed liked the appetizers came out instantly. It was such a busy night so we were quite impressed. After the main course came out, two people checked in on us (the waiter and the manager of the restaurant). This made us feel very welcome and very comfortable. Service was prompt throughout the entire meal yet we didn’t feel rushed at all. The food was magnificent, as we imagined it would be. You could just tell that only the finest ingredients were used and that the meal was prepared with pride. We recommend trying the New York Strip steak. It was simply mouth watering. Desert and espresso followed the main course and once again, the quality and freshness stood out.

Overall, we highly suggest visiting Wolfgang Puck for dinner if you are in the Atlantic City Area. It may be a tad bit pricy for some people but, for the quality of the food combined with the atmosphere, it is well worth the expense.

We will certainly be returning to dine there in the near future!

On May 31st 2008, NJrockstar.com covered the much anticipated Stone Temple Pilot reunion tour concert @ PNC Art Center in NJ. Although earlier dates in this tour described a decent show by the Pilots, along with somewhat decent Youtube clips, this show may have been the absolute worst concert we have ever attended in our lives! Lets look at the rundown.

For Starters:

The weather was not on the side of the PNC Center that day. On and off rain in the afternoon was quite rough at times and weather predictions suggested heavy rain right around concert time. Great to hear right? We knew this going in and arrived @ PNC center around 7:30 PM to tailgate ( at this point the sky was holding up). We hung in the parking lots with boatloads of other fans who were really siked up for this show. We actually had no interest in the 2 opening acts. One of which was the band “Filter” who has had moderate success in the music biz. Nevertheless, we didn’t enter the complex until their set was ending. We recall the lead singer of Filter trying to throw in his political opinion/comments in between songs but it was pretty pathetic and the crowd didnt connect at all. Finally, Fiter had some mercy on the crowd and ended their set. Hooray!

The garbage begins:

After Filter cleared the stage we had a big surprise…Opie and Anthony came out ( after all, this show was brought to the art center by K-Rock). They took the stage to prep the audience for STP and tried to plug their own stuff. I hate to say it but, the crowd was boo-ing them the whole time. They really were not funny at all. Then finally, they said “coming up next…Stone Temple Pilots!” What we didnt realize, at this point, was that STP was going to be late about 90 minutes! During this time we grabbed some beers and just absorbed the atmosphere. At this point, it did start to rain a bit but eventually tapered off.

Anticipation growing:

With the weather holding up now, we were hoping that it was gonna be a great show although everyone was getting restless becuase of the long delay. The crowd there was as expected. A bunch of old time STP fans as well as some new one. Mostly everyone was drunk. Some of which we puking in the bushes. Others were the pumped up “Frat Type” that kept hitting themselves in the chest with their own fist and saying “Yeah…Yeah..” Dont you just love these pikers? Now it was starting to get rediculous, it was 10:45 and still no activity on the stage. The crowd started chanting ” bullshit…bullshit”. You would kind of expect that kind of reaction at this point. Then finally, some activity perhaps?

The “Sad” but, Main Event begins:

After the most rediculous wait time ever, The Pilots finally took the stage around 11PM and this may have been the worst intro ever. No announcement by anyone. They just walked on the stage. Lead singer Scott Weiland said “sorry for the delay” and they started playing a moderate-slower tune. No energy whatsoever! The crowd seemed dazed and confused. Half way thru the first song you could clearly see the fans all looking at each other saying: “What the fuck”. Now, this is not just the opinion of Njrockstar here folks, everyone within in our listenting range was saying “they friggin suck!!! what the hell?” The music itself was on point yet lacking energy but the voice of lead singer Scott Weiland was absoluetley terrible and was ruining everything. He could not reach a note to save his life. You could clearly see him struggling to get the words out. Much different than the Scott we knew back in the day when the band was at its prime. Immediate speculations were 2 things:

1: That he was completely fucked up on drugs (he sure looked that way).
2: The years of Herion use, smoking and heavy drinking have ruined his voice.

This was clearly evident with every line that he “tried” to sing. The Pilots went into each one of their old songs with the same attitude. The rest of the band looked happy to be playing but as a whole, they just sucked. At this point they were about 20 minutes into the set and we couldn’t believe our eyes..there were a handful of people actually leaving! Now, we will give credit where it is due, they did start to pick up a bit and scott got a tad better into the middle of the set but he still was clearly distressed and struggling. He started to rely on his trademark, “bullhorn” which he sings into on many of thier old tunes. Almost like a 2nd singer or “alter-ego”. He must have been 30 pounds lighter then he was back in the day when they were at their peak. He looked quite ill. Watch this video as evidence and then read on….

Fade out:

Everywhere we looked, you could see the disappointment in this capacity crowd as Stone Temple Pilots played on. Hell, people we going to the snack stands, bathroom, taking a walk. People…the main event is happening here! No one seemed to care. It was an incredible sight. The capacity crowd was not feeling the show in the least bit. It almost didn’t even seem like reality. I guess these things sometimes happen. It was a just bad performance, what can we say.

The aftermath:

Although we were there to see a rock concert and write a review, we too, had fallen into the mood that many of the other fans were in. We decided to leave while they were still playing. It was just that bad. We couldn’t listen anymore. We made our way to the parking lot, as we witnessed most fans walking to their vehicles, with their heads down. Yes..the show was a total flop!”

Conclusion:

Njrockstar.com was really siked about going to this show. We would get to hear all the STP hits from back in the day. Remember, this was a reunion tour, no new material. With the combination of threatening weather, less than popular opening bands, and the extremely disappointing performance of a once great rock band, the end result was a total flopped concert event . Stone Temple Pilots sucked royally but at least it was a day out with the boys right?

Ahh, the spring and summer season is on the way once again and with that, comes the seasonal fashion statements of the [...]

Ahh, the spring and summer season is on the way once again and with that, comes the seasonal fashion statements of the year. NJ has always been a state that is full of younger folks who follow the latest trends for the most part. I mean, let’s face it, if you are living out in Nebraska somewhere, your not going to be as conscious about what you are wearing as you would be if you are 20 minutes from NYC correct? We are right there, in the middle of the action. New Jersey is full of hot spots (clubs, venues, etc) where people in their 20s and 30s like to show off their fashion statement.

We think it is safe to say that the phase of wearing phrase t-shirts is finally over (Thank GOD ). Shirts like “Got Milf” and so on.

So what do we think will be hot this season? Well let us provide our prediction and opinion.

For the guys, you will not go wrong wearing nice fitting T-shirts on those warm spring and summer nights. Not the muscle type which puts you back into the Guido era (gag) but designer t’s that have a nice cut. You can’t go wrong with whites or with a dramatic color like red, blue or even yellow. Don’t go too crazy with the designs on the shirt. If it has a design on front and back, pass up the purchase. The president of njrockstar.com (Dan) prefers Guess brand t-shirts and sometimes Buffalo. Diesel is also good but you should try it on first! Diesel can run quite tight and no, you don’t have to be a juice-head to wear Diesel. Get the next size up from what you are used to and you will look fine.

The dressed up look is out of style for the spring and summer months. You will make much more of a statement if you are wearing a really nice pair of jeans and a phat , clean t-shirt.

For the jeans, we strongly suggest buffalo brand by far. They always have a good fit; they are rugged, straight legged for the most part and always in style. Guess brand is also good but for you shorter guys, unfortunately, they are usually always 33 long by default. Nothing a tailor can’t fix though.

As far as sneakers go, you cannot go wrong with Nike Air Max. Yes, they are more pricy but they last a very long time if you don’t abuse them.

Now you ladies out there, we are not going to try to suggest style since this is being written by a guy. You all know what to do. Work you magic. Summer dresses are always a hit. So are nice fitting jeans and of course guys love heels for those night events! Just don’t over dress when you are going to the friggin’ Jersey shore.
Overall, we feel that this season will be more of a “dressed down” season. You can do this and still make your mark.
These are just a few of our opinions and predictions for the spring and summer 2009 season.

Ladies and Gents, feel free to comment on this article and leave your input, advice, opinion, etc. We would love to hear from you!
