Njrockstar.com recently spoke with Jason Labaska, a NJ resident who has a passion for music. He goes by the name DJ JVC (JVC Productions). We had a little Q&A session about how he got into mixing and we wanted to share it with our reader.

Q: Hi Jason, Thanks for taking the time to speak with us. Why don’t you start off by answering the First and obvious question. We would like to know, how did you first get started in DJ’ing / Mixing? How old were you and when did you know that it was something that you were passionate about?

A: I began DJ’ing when I was 15 years old.  My friend David Smith first showed me how to DJ.  I was the first and only white DJ in my high school and started DJ’ing for a local rap group.  We actually got a record deal from a company called Valley Records out of Plainfield, NJ but never actually cut a record.  That was in 1987.  After high school, I started going out to clubs and that is how I got into mixing club music.

Q: Do you ever get the opportunity to DJ publicly or is this something that you do for as a hobby?

A: I DJ as a hobby, friends ask me to mix CD’s for them.

Q: What would you consider your musical style? For example: is there a specific style of music or DJ that influences your particular sound.

A: I don’t really have a specific style.  Sometimes I get deep into Trance music, sometime House music and sometimes Club music.  I pretty much like thunderous beats that control you.

Q: What do you do when you are not mixing/DJ’ing?

A: When I am not mixing, I enjoy working out, hanging out with friends and listening to music, trying to find that next big song or any song that will compliment my set well.

Q: What is your future goals related to music? (Performing publicly, release material for download, etc)

A: My future goals are to get my mixing perfect so that I can start a career after I retire from my job in 10 years.  I would eventually like to perform live in a popular night club.

Q: Is there any place that we can hear a current mix? Is there perhaps a link, download, etc?

A: Sure, this is my current mix:

I can be found at “soundcloud.com”, search “popo0618“, I will try and upload a new mix weekly.

Well, Thanks for speaking with us. We look forward to hearing the new material that you come up with in the future. Be sure to keep us updated and best of luck to you!

I certainly will. Thanks guys!
